A nivel mundial existe una gran variabilidad geografica con diferencias de hasta 4 veces entre regiones de baja prevalencia (Filipinas, India y Japon) y de alta prevalencia (Australia, Canada, Dinamarca, Finlandia y EEUU). Existe a su vez variabilidad racial en una misma area de residencia. Asi, en la region de la Bahia de San Francisco, los blancos no hispanos tienen mayor prevalencia de gliomas de alto grado que hispanos, afroamericanos, japoneses, chinos y filipinos(3). La incidencia anual en EEUU en adultos para tumores malignos del sistema nervioso central es de 8,8 por 100.000 habitantes. Un 80% de ellos corresponden a gliomas de alto grado(1).
