Abstract
This essay critically explores the relationship between parabolic narrative and Jenny Erpenbeck's Visitation. By elucidating the metaphor of the house, its numerous occupants who visit throughout the last century of German history, and the rhetorical strategy of Anacoluthon, the author crafts an extended, unfinished metaphor that both knits together the occupants, as well as linking impermenance with place and history.
