Abstract
Like every national type of English, Canadian English also displays variation that correlates with regional division. Though regional dialects of Canadian English is little diverse in comparison to those of American English, a very homogeneous dialect exists in Western and Central Canada and the provinces east of Ontario, such as Newfoundland and Maritimes, show the largest dialect diversity. This paper aims to present regional dialects of General Canadian English. The structure of this paper begins with the introduction of General Canadian English and its regional dialects. Section 2 provides linguistic characteristics of West/Central Canadian English. Section 3 and section 4 respectively present Newfoundland English and Maritime English which show distinctive and heterogeneous features especially at lexical and phonological levels compared to North American English.
