Todos os anos milhares de aves migratorias chegam ao Brasil a procura de alimento e descanso, vindas de paises como EUA, Canada e Argentina. Durante o periodo de maio de 2006 a junho de 2011 foram realizadas amostragens  por meio de transeccoes e observacoes de ponto fixo no litoral norte de Santa Catarina para o registro de aves migratorias. Vinte e tres especies  foram  identificadas, sendo 20 oriundas do hemisferio norte e 3 oriundas do hemisferio sul. A coroa do Capri, na Baia da Babitonga, registrou o maior numero de especies (14), reunindo 60% da riqueza total. A partir de agosto foi registrado um aumento significativo na riqueza, atingido o pico em novembro e regredindo em dezembro, indicando a chegada das especies na regiao. Os maiores grupos foram registrados para C. semipalmatus , com mais de 400 individuos no canal do Linguado. O litoral norte de Santa Catarina reune a maior riqueza de aves migratorias registrada para o Estado e pode ser considerado um importante ponto de parada para as aves migrantes do norte e do sul do continente, com um numero representativo de especies. A conservacao da regiao e fundamental para a manutencao do ciclo migratorio destas especies.
