Appliquée au domaine de l’éducation, en particulier à celui du développement professionnel des enseignantes et des enseignants, la perspective sociale sur l’apprentissage (Lave & Wenger, 1991 ; Brown & Duguid, 1991 ; Orr, 1996) se répand (Daele & Charlier, 2006 ; Gervais, 2005 ; Kimble & Hildreth, 2008). Dans cet article, nous analysons la dynamique du passage de frontière (« boundary spanning »; Engeström, 1987) dans des communautés de pratique qui façonnent l’École éloignée en réseau au Québec. Les passeurs de frontière utilisent des technologies de l’information et de la communication (TIC) à des fins d’enrichissement de l’environnement d’apprentissage par la voie de l’entraide et de la collaboration qui se reflète par le partage et la coélaboration de connaissances. Nous constatons des effets surprenants sur le développement professionnel en termes de résolutions de contradictions tout au cours du déploiement du modèle d’innovation. Toutefois, des écueils demeurent et ceux-ci reflètent les caractéristiques et limites des personnes comme celles des organisations auxquelles elles sont rattachées.
