Abstract
Que signifie diriger une institution d'art et comment y parvient-on aujour d'hui, dans un monde devenu de plus en plus complexe et exigeant ? En quoi consiste le leadership qu'il faut être capable d'exercer au sein des grandes institutions culturelles? Depuis plusieurs années déjà, le leadership fait l'objet d'une attention du plus grand intérêt dans les entreprises privées aussi bien que dans le milieu de l'enseignement. Cet ouvrage souhaite contribuer à enrichir la discussion en cette matière et à inspirer la pratique de la gestion de l'art. Il propose une analyse détaillée des dynamiques à l'oeuvre dans les organisations artistiques et de la façon par laquelle ceux qui sont à leur tête ont choisi de répondre aux défis qui leur étaient lancés. Cette réflexion est soutenue par le témoignage d'importants leaders de la scène culturelle qui ont su garantir le succès de leur organisation: Nathalie Bondil, directrice du Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal depuis 2007; Philippe de Montebello, directeur du Metropolitan Museum of Art de New York de 1977 à 2008; et Stéphane Lissner, directeur de la Scala de Milan depuis 2005, qui prendra la direction de l'Opéra national de Paris, à partir d'août 2014.
