در سال‌های اخیر فیزیک از یک علم محض به یک علم کاربردی روزمره تبدیل شده است و دیگر در کمتر جایی فیزیک صرفا به صورت یک رشته کارشناسی و یا مقاطع بالاتر بدون کاربرد مشخص تدریس می‌شود. این امر به دلیل راه‌کارهایی است که فیزیک برای پژوهش­گران رشته­های مختلف به ارمغان آورده است، که علت آن هم به واسطه مهارت­های تحلیلی فیزیک‌پیشگان است. از اولین معادله دیفرانسیل ارائه شده برای پتانسیل عمل نورون­های مغز و اعصاب توسط هاجکین و هاکسلی گرفته تا پیشنهاد نانوفناوری توسط فاینمن همه راه‌کارهایی است که علوم پایه، و به خصوص فیزیک به جامعه پزشکی، صنعت و پژوهش­گران رشته‌های مختلف ارائه داده است. در این مقاله مروری سعی می­شود جایگاه فیزیک اعصاب به عنوان زیرشاخه­ای از بیوفیزیک به دانشجویان و پژوهش­گران فیزیک معرفی شود تا اهمیت همراه شدن با جامعه جهانی و آموزش دانشجویان فیزیک مطابق کاربردهای روز روشن­تر گردد. ما ابتدا با معرفی دستگاه اعصاب مرکزی از دیدگاه فیزیک شروع کرده و سپس به معرفی قوانین و معادلات بنیادی فیزیک اعصاب می­پردازیم. در آخر به فیزیک یادگیری و حافظه اشاره­ای خواهیم داشت.
