Abstract
This article seeks to explain the strength of the field of international criminal justice understood as the specifically legal power to frame issues as criminal in the international sphere and to create a sphere of autonomy for international criminal justice. It argues that this strength is not necessarily found where one might expect, namely in a sovereign like centralization of the power of enforcement, but in a range of practices through which the field constitutes its specific form of juridical authority at the intersection of various fields.
