Fondés sur la recherche de configurations de goûts et de pratiques propres aux différents groupes sociaux, les modèles de l’omnivorité et de l’éclectisme reposent sur une représentation substantialiste des rapports à la culture, que l’instabilité des comportements condamne à la multiplication des types et des sous-types. Pour surmonter cette difficulté, l’analyse proposée s’est appliquée à identifier des attitudes, comprises comme constructions psychologiques durables et transmissibles. Elle s’est appuyée sur une enquête statistique réalisée en janvier 2012 à la demande de l’université de Paris-Dauphine. L’introduction de questions sur le sens attribué aux activités et sur la représentation de la posture en situation (e. g. : visite de musée ou d’exposition) conduit à mettre en évidence différents rapports à la culture parmi les étudiants. Plus volontaristes, plus conformistes ou plus distanciés, ils renvoient à des contextes de socialisation différents, en même temps qu’ils attestent la permanence intergénérationnelle de la culture traditionnelle comme valeur.
