L’objectif de cette étude est d’explorer de façon quantitative l’existence, chez les futurs enseignants, de liens entre leurs croyances et connaissances sur le redoublement et leurs conceptions générales de l’enseignement. Pour ce faire, un questionnaire a été soumis à 592 étudiants inscrits en formation d’enseignant primaire à l’Université de Genève. Les résultats montrent que c’est la connaissance des recherches sur les effets du redoublement qui explique le plus la croyance en défaveur de la pratique du redoublement et inversement. Cette donnée est essentielle pour la formation initiale ou continue des enseignants, puisqu’elle témoigne de la nécessité et de l’importance des savoirs théoriques.
