Abstract
Durante una investigacion para identificar los digeneos presentes en aves acuaticas del complejo lagunar Chacopata–Bocaripo, peninsula de Araya, se extrajeron dos especies de digeneos, a los cuales se les aplico tecnicas rutinarias de fijacion, tincion y montaje, para establecer su ubicacion taxonomica. Dos ejemplares de un equinostomatido perteneciente a la especie Ignavia venusta Texeira de Freitas 1948 fueron extraidos del rinon del pico de tijera, Rynchops niger (Charadriiformes), y dos psilostomidos de la especie Ribeiroia ondatrae (Price, 1931) Price, 1942, se encontraron en el esofago de la cotua olivacea, Phalacrocorax olivaceus (Pelecaniformes). Se presentan tablas comparativas de caracteristicas morfologicas y morfometricas y otros datos de los digeneos. Algunas diferencias morfometricas y morfologicas pudieran obedecer al estado de desarrollo de los vermes, al hospedero definitivo, o a la separacion geografica existente. I. venusta y R. ondatrae se describen por primera vez para Venezuela, y R. niger y P. olivaceus amplian la lista de hospederos para cada especie de digeneo. ABSTRACT During an examination of aquatic birds from the Chacopata-Bocaripo lagoon complex, Araya Peninsula, Venezuela, for the presence of digenean parasites, two species were recovered. The digeneans were fixed in Bouin solution, stained in Semichon’s acid carmine, and mounted on Canada balsam. Flukes were identified mainly on the basis of ad hoc keys. Two specimens were extracted from the kidneys of the black skimmer, Rynchops niger (Charadriiformes) and identified as Ignavia venusta Texeira de Feitas, 1948, (Echinostomatidae). Two other specimens were extracted from the esophagus of the Neotropical cormorant, Phalacrocorax olivaceus (Pelecaniformes) and identified as Ribeiroia ondatrae (Price, 1931) Price, 1942 (Psilostomides). Morphometrical and morphological characteristics and other digenean features are shown in comparative tables. The specimens collected showed morphometric and morphological differences due to the host species, the state of development of the flukes and geographical variation. I. venusta , and R. ondatrae have not been previously identified from Venezuela and the bird hosts, P. olivaceus and R. niger, extend the host list for these digeneans.
