Abstract
Na esteira de Durkheim, a antropologia ecologica aceitou em grande parte a ideia de que as sociedades humanas apreendem a natureza atraves de representacoes individuais e coletivas. Sabemos que a objetividade do conhecimento humano do meio baseava-se, para Durkheim, no carater coletivo das representacoes do mundo sensivel. Este artigo se consagra ao exame dessa conclusao, revolucionaria para sua epoca, e a sua reformulacao estrutural por Claude Levi-Strauss, e mais recentemente por Philippe Descola. Para escrever uma historia critica da relacao cultura-natureza, tal como concebida ate os dias de hoje pelos herdeiros de Durkheim, sustentaremos que e preciso problematizar a distincao central estabelecida por Durkheim entre o mundo sensivel e as suas representacoes sociais.
