Abstract
Le rapport à la France des Québécois n’a jamais été neutre. Si elles rejetaient les idéaux républicains, les élites traditionnalistes d’autrefois admiraient la France du Grand Siècle, fille aînée de l’Église. Ce texte tente de démontrer que, depuis les années 1960, parmi les intellectuels québécois les plus en vue, l’héritage français est discrédité en bloc. Ces nouvelles élites modernistes rejettent à la fois son Ancien Régime, inégalitaire, et son modèle républicain d’intégration des nouveaux arrivants, jugé intolérant lors de débats récents sur la laïcité. La vogue du concept d’américanité et l’adhésion au multiculturalisme libéral des élites intellectuelles québécoises ne seraient pas étrangères à ce rejet de l’héritage français.
