Abstract
Connaissant les conséquences du tabagisme sur la santé et les bénéfices de l'arrêt, les professionnels de santé, dont le pharmacien, ont le devoir de s'impliquer dans l'aide au sevrage tabagique. Après évaluation de la dépendance tabagique du candidat au sevrage, le professionnel de santé sera en mesure de lui proposer une aide adaptée. Psychothérapie de soutien et substitution nicotinique ont une efficacité reconnue dans l'aide au sevrage tabagique. Le bupropion (Zyban©) représente un nouveau moyen d'aide au sevrage tabagique. Déjà commercialisé aux États-Unis depuis 1989 comme antidépresseur et depuis 1997 dans l'aide au sevrage tabagique, ainsi qu'au Canada et dans de nombreux pays d'Europe, le bupropion, dont la mise sur le marché en France date du 17 septembre 2001, nécessite une vigilance particulière de la part des médecins et une surveillance des pharmaciens, compte tenu de son potentiel de dépendance et de ses effets indésirables. L'instauration d'un suivi est un élément capital, puisqu'il augmente le taux de réussite et permet de prévenir les rechutes.
