Abstract
Content The Institute for the and Canadian Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (2/3 Khlebny per., 123995 Moscow, Russian Federation) was established over 30 years ago in Moscow by 1967 as a solid scientific research institution for advanced studies of the economy, policy, and ideology of the United States of America and Canada. It is the first and the largest think tank in Russia organized to study the and Canada specifically and comprehensively through the open publications and different official sources. The Institute produces numerous research reports on political and economic issues for the Russian Government, as well as prepares serious scientific publications in many related academic fields. Such principal fields of study include basic trends in the development of the U.S. and Canadian economy, military and political strategy, theory and practice of the U.S. foreign policy, social and cultural problems of the American and Canadian societies. The staff members of the Institute are heavily involved in different research and consulting projects for the Russian Government and for the national Federal Assembly. A distinguished Russian scholar and a decorated World War II veteran - Academician, Professor George A. Arbatov, Dr. Sc. (Hist.) has been the first Director of the Institute from the day of its inception, later followed by a prominent expert in military political history Sergey M. Rogov, Dr. Sc. (Hist.). The Institute's academic activities involved fundamental and applied researches as well as the coordination of American studies in the C.I.S. countries. The basic publications include a monthly journal, called USA - Canada: Economics, Politics, Culture, as well as many monographs related to the domestic, foreign, and military issues of the two countries, specific macro economic and cultural aspects, business management, agriculture, etc. The Institute participates in international research exchanges, and also conducts regular conferences and seminars in Moscow. The Institute consists of different research departments, divisions and sections. Институт США и Канады Российской Академии Наук (ИСКРАН) прочно занимает ведущее место среди научно-исследовательских институтов, став своеобразным «мозговым центром», т.е. сообществом известных специалистов по изучению Соединенных Штатов Америки и Канады. Институт был основан в 1967 году академиком Г.А. Арбатовым, возглавлявшим его вплоть до 1995 года, когда директором стал доктор исторических наук С.М. Рогов. ИСКРАН является одним из основных центров по выработке рекомендаций для высокопоставленных государственных структур по вопросам внутренней, внешней и военной политики, по проблемам экономической реструктуризации российского народного хозяйства. За время существования Института его структура не раз менялась, обновлялся и состав сотрудников, но высокое качество проводимых Институтом исследований и их практическая ценность оставались неизменными. Научные подразделения ИСКРАН: Особое внимание в исследованиях института уделяется вопросам внешней политики США и их роли на международной арене. Ученые ИСКРАН изучают проводимый Соединенными Штатами политический курс в различных регионах мира, российско-американские отношения, различные концепции и доктрины американского внешнеполитического курса. Изучение внутренней политики охватывает широкий круг вопросов. Особое внимание уделяется изучению американской политической системы, социальной базы развития политических процессов, внутренней политики США, общественного мнения и американской политической культуры. Военно-стратегические исследования носят междисциплинарный характер и тесно связаны с практической задачей определения стратегических интересов России на мировой арене. Ученые института ведут военно-стратегические исследования в тесном сотрудничестве с представителями вооруженных сил. Данная область исследования включает изучение американского подхода к проблеме использования вооруженных сил, политики в области разоружения и ограничения обычных и ядерных вооружений. Анализ военно-политических проблем занимает особое место в работе ИСКРАН’а. Являясь междисциплинарной областью исследований, он напрямую связан с позицией России по различным вопросам военно-политического развития в мире. Специалисты института изучают политическую роль вооруженных сил, военные доктрины и концепции, международные аспекты различных военных акций, вопросы расширения НАТО и меры по поддержанию стабильности. Анализ экономической системы США включает исследование ее структуры и внутренних механизмов, тенденций и перспектив научно-технического развития США, изучение проблем американской экономики. Исследователи института ведут анализ системы мировых экономических отношений и роли экономики США в ней. Особое внимание уделяется российско-американским торговым и экономическим отношениям. Отдел Канады ИСКРАН ведет комплексное изучение канадской внешней и внутренней политики, российско-канадских отношений в различных сферах, развития канадской экономики и роли Канады в системе международного разделения труда.
