Au Québec, ce n’est pas tant l’ampleur de la dette du gouvernement qui est en cause, même s’il y a matière à s’inquiéter, mais plutôt le contexte dans lequel la dette a été contractée. Dans une étude portant sur la problématique de la dette du gouvernement du Québec, le Centre sur la productivité et la prospérité de HEC Montréal démontre que la récurrence des déficits budgétaires crée une spirale d’endettement qui a des conséquences particulièrement néfastes sur les finances publiques de la province.
