Abstract
Cet article propose une analyse du rapport de l’abbé Lionel Groulx au politique pendant la période de l’entre-deux-guerres. En subordonnant son nationalisme au catholicisme, qu’il refusa toujours d’instrumentaliser à des fins politiques, Groulx développa une idéologie traditionaliste et providentialiste qui accordait peu de place à la question du régime ou aux réformes institutionnelles, et le tenait largement à l’écart de l’influence maurrassiste. Le groulxisme, qui envisageait toutefois sous certains angles la création d’un « État français » indépendant, n’en contenait pas moins une certaine part d’ambiguïté vis-à-vis du politique. La tension dialectique grandissante entre les questions nationale et religieuse dans le champ intellectuel canadien français compte parmi les facteurs à l’origine de la Révolution tranquille des années 1960 au Québec.
