Abstract
Cognitive-behavioral intervention in a case of a late adolescent depression. An intervention for an 18-year old late adolescent girl diagnosed with\nmajor depressive disorder is presented. The main aim of this study is to analyze the effects of a cognitive-behavioral treatment in order to decrease\ndepressive symptoms. The assessment was carried out using the Spanish version of the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), the Rosenberg Self-Esteem\nScale, the Inventory of Situations and Responses of Anxiety (ISRA), and the Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20). The cognitive-behavioral treatment\ncomprised psychoeducation, behavioral activation, training in diaphragmatic breathing, self-instructional coping, assertiveness, and cognitive\nrestructuring techniques. The pretest-posttest assessment shows that the intervention achieved the main goal, which was a significant reduction of\nthe depressive symptoms. The implications of the results are discussed, supporting the efficacy of the cognitive-behavioral therapy for the treatment\nof adolescent depression.
