Abstract
Le Drummond County Railway, ou Compagnie de chemin de fer du comté de Drummond, a été en activité de 1886 à 1899. D'abord une ligne locale destinée à l'exploitation forestière, elle s'est ensuite étendue de Saint-Hyacinthe à Lévis. Le gouvernement canadien, soucieux de régler le problème de déficit chronique qui accablait son chemin de fer Intercolonial, a tenté une première fois de s'approprier le Drummond County Railway en le louant. Ce fut un échec et l'affaire a fait scandale. Une seconde tentative, sous forme d'achat, a cependant été couronnée de succès et a constitué l'un des premiers actes de la politique ferroviaire de Wilfrid Laurier.
