Abstract
Quand on lit The Winter’s Tale de Shakespeare à la lumière de ses allusions aux traditions culturelles grecques comme elles étaient comprises à la Renaissance, on se rend compte que les liens entre les personnages sont plus étroits que prévus. Si l’on se rappelle l’association entre l’ours et Artemis, protectrice de la faune sauvage et déesse de la fertilité, le lien entre l’ours et Hermione s’éclaircit. La transgression du loup, nommé Autolycus, offre une parodie de la louveté tyrannique de Léontès, ce qui aide le public à le comprendre et, peut-être, à lui pardonner. Par conséquent, ces deux personnages, qui ne sont pas essentiels à l’intrigue, sont en fait bien intégrés dans la pièce.
