Abstract
Ils sont de plus en plus nombreux à se demander si l’individualisme présent dans nos sociétés peut encore faire une place au bien commun. L’auteur de cet article croit que oui. Sans aucunement renoncer à cet individualisme qui peut être associé au courant libéral, il est encore possible selon lui de définir ce que nous entendons par bien commun. Pour ce faire, il nous faut sortir des ornières habituelles où l’on essaie de définir le bien commun en termes économiques, politiques, sociologiques ou religieux pour redéployer cette question dans la seule sphère éthique, à la faveur d’une délibération portant sur les valeurs. À cette condition, et pour peu que l’on adopte une approche délibérative, le bien commun pourra servir à réguler les comportements des agents sociaux.
