Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

In this thesis I explore how the material properties of plant seed enter the
\npolitical discourses of the international peasant coalition the Via Campesina and
\ncoalition member the National Fanners Union of Canada (NFU), querying how this
\nprocess might be employed as a resource for a transformative eco-social politics. I
\nemploy several post-structural theoretical constructs, configuring them together as a
\n"minor theory".
\nThis minor theory provides the basis for a "minor" reading of three sets of
\nVia Campesina and NFU texts. The aim of these readings is to track the movement
\nof seed from a local agricultural concern to a transitive political one, across both the
\nmaterial and discursive registers. In surfacing the presence of the seed's physical
\nproperties in the three texts, I highlight the distinctions between the constraining seed
\nof corporate industrial agriculture, and the social and agroecological opportunities
\nresulting from what I call a "Seed Event".

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
