Abstract
Cet article traite de la trajectoire des Indiens brésiliens et de leurs descendants, aux origines ethniques diverses qui, emprisonnés lors des expéditions (« bandeiras ») de l’intérieur, sont expulsés de leurs terres, et ont été contraints de se déplacer vers les villes du Minas Gerais au XVIIIe siècle. N’acceptant pas la condition de métis dans laquelle ils sont considérés, ils font appel à la Justice dans les villes coloniales pour faire reconnaître leur origine indienne. Conformément aux prérogatives de la loi, l’affirmation de leur condition d’« Indien » signifie une seule et même condition : être reconnus comme hommes libres.
