L’enseignement de la littérature est généralement caractérisé par des approches traditionnelles qui ne laissent que peu de place aux représentations personnelles des élèves et à la relation subjective qui pourraient servir de tremplin à une plus grande appropriation du littéraire. Or, l’influence de plus en plus grande des modes d’expressions numériques et la prédominance de l’image dans la sphère médiatique nous amènent à considérer la littératie médiatique multimodale (Jewitt, 2008; Kress et Van Leeuwen, 2001; Lebrun, Lacelle et Boutin, 2012) comme une approche favorisant l’appropriation du langage littéraire. Nous proposons d’analyser les effets d’un dispositif didactique qui mise sur la lecture et l’écriture subjectives et qui s’arrime avec les perspectives multimodales dans l’enseignement du français. De plus, ce dispositif est fondé sur le roman graphique. Pour cette recherche, nous avons mis à contribution des observations faites en classe de français au secondaire afin d’analyser des scénarimages (scénarios imagés) et des bandes-annonces produits par les élèves. Ce projet montre que les élèves actuels constituent une génération de sujets qui puisent à toutes les sources pour construire leurs références en lecture et en écriture. Notre recherche montre également que la multimodalité peut jouer un rôle fondamental dans l’appropriation du langage littéraire.
