Deux affaires ont recemment contribue a renforcer et stabiliser le « consensus republicain » francais forge, apres 15 ans de controverses sur l’affaire du foulard, autour de la loi de 2004 interdisant les signes religieux a l’ecole. Ce consensus met des limites strictes a la reconnaissance des particularismes religieux et culturels dans la republique. Dans ce qui suit, je tiens a montrer que ce consensus s’est etabli sur des bases erronees. Il n’approfondit pas mais au contraire travestit l’ideal republicain, comme le montre une analyse comparee de la doctrine des « accommodements raisonnables » dans le rapport Stasi (France, 2003) et le recent rapport Bouchard-Taylor (Quebec, 2008).
