Abstract
This book makes an attempt to bridge the solitudes between international relations and international economic law with a particular focus on what legal perspectives can offer the study of global political economy. By examining the politics of international economic law I aim to bring together several threads of research that will give a sense of where the political and legal processes underway are taking us – towards a future of legal interconnection where political debates over the future of the global economy take place through legal channels and in institutional arenas. The new questions that we need to ask are, how do we think about this new world of economic law? What are its strengths and weaknesses? Who rules this brave new future and what are the implications? Most scholars understand the reciprocal relationship between global politics and international law. This study goes further by exploring how that relationship is evolving in an era of contentious power politics, technological globalization and extensive levels of economic integration.
