Abstract
Si les institutions européennes ont depuis leur origine connu des crises, qu’elles ont toujours su surmonter, les difficultés qu’elles rencontrent aujourd’hui semblent particulièrement sérieuses. Depuis la ratification du traité de Maastricht, trois problèmes majeurs se posent. D’une part la question du déficit démocratique européen. D’autre part, le rétrécissement de l’espace des choix politiques offerts aux citoyens, qui est de plus en plus soumis à des contraintes économiques. Enfin, la panne du modèle social européen. Ces différents facteurs, largement entrecroisés, constituent le terreau à partir duquel l’euroscepticisme prospère au sein de l’opinion publique.
