En parallèle de ma recherche pratique sur le spectacle « J'ai toujours voulu être une fille hirondelle», ce mémoire questionne les ancrages théoriques et esthétiques de ma démarche artistique dans le cadre spécifique du théâtre pour enfant. Cette réflexion repose sur une affirmation, une prise de position déterminante dans le développement de ma pratique théâtrale : Le théâtre pour enfant comme médium d'appropriation du monde par son public. Ma double pratique de dramaturge et de metteur en scène me pousse dans la recherche suivante à étudier les fondements de cette affirmation tant au niveau dramatique que esthétique. Tout d'abord, dans l'histoire toute récente du théâtre pour enfant institutionnalisé au Québec, je m'intéresse à voir comment les créateurs abordent depuis les années cinquante la délicate question du rapport au public enfantin. Ensuite, comment ces derniers se positionnent face à la spécificité intrinsèque au théâtre pour enfant, à savoir la position ambiguë d'un créateur adulte s'adressant à un spectateur enfant. Encore, dans la multitude de questionnements éthiques que soulève cette ambigiiité, quelle place occupe le partage esthétique inhérent à la création artistique. J'engage ensuite cette recherche dans l'exploration des principales références qui accompagnent l'évolution de ma recherche artistique. De la forme narrative du conte de fée au concept formel du bricolage théâtral, en passant par l'art visuel comme possibilité interdisciplinaire, j'explicite les pistes de recherche qui ont orienté ma pratique. Enfin, j'invite le lecteur au coeur de mon processus de création. Il s'agit d'étudier comment il est possible de passer d'une expérience intime d'appropriation du monde par la création d'un spectacle se basant sur une expérience de voyage, au partage scénique de cette même expérience.
