Abstract
Ist das Exzessive unbedeutend? Wörtlich genommen betrifft diese Frage die Semantik. Sie lässt sich aber auch pragmatisch verstehen: Etwas ist "unbedeutend", wenn es keine Konsequenzen nach sich zieht. In Anbetracht einer möglicherweise angenommenen Bedeutungslosigkeit der Übertreibung stellen sich zwei Fragen: Warum sollte man übertreiben? Ist die Hyperbel lediglich eine Übertreibung? Dem ist zweifelsohne nicht so, da es sich um eine rhetorische Figur handelt. Allgemein kann gesagt werden, dass Stilfiguren die Rede permanent beeinflussen. Denkfiguren wie der Euphemismus, die Litotes, die Ironie und die Hyperbel, die auf einer Diskrepanz zwischen Gesagtem und Gemeintem beruhen und deren Gemeinsamkeiten wir untersuchen werden, sind stets in ihrem Produktionskontext zu betrachten. Alles in allem entspricht der vorliegende Artikel einer Studie zur pragmatischen Instabilität der Hyperbel.
