목적: 폐경증상이 있는 폐경여성에서 승마추출물과 St. John`s wort 복합제의 치료효능과 안전성을 평가하였다. 연구 방법: 폐경기 증후군으로 진단받은 여성 60명을 대상으로 승마추출물과 St. John`s wort 복합제 (GYNO-plus(R))를 3개월간 경구 투여 후 Kupperman 지수, 혈청 난포자극호르몬치, 에스트로겐 농도, 유방실질밀도, 골밀도, 간기능 검사의 변화와 약제의 부작용을 평가하였다. 결과: 유효성의 평가변수로서 Kupperman 지수는 치료 3개월 후 통계학적으로 유의한 감소를 나타내었다. 난포자극호르몬치, 에스트로겐 농도, 골밀도, 유방실질밀도, 그리고 간기능 검사는 유의한 차이가 없었다. 부작용으로는 8명 (24.24%)에서 9건의 이상반응이 발현되었으나 이 중 7건은 시험약과 관련이 없는 것으로 나타났으며, 이상반응 모두는 후유증이 없이 해결되었다. 결론: 결론적으로 지노플러스정 (GYNO-plus(R))은 폐경기 장애 환자의 폐경기 증상 개선에 있어 효과적이며 안전한 약물로 판단되며 호르몬 보충요법을 거부하거나 호르몬 보충요법의 금기증이 있는 폐경여성에게 사용할 수 있는 차선책으로 생각된다.
