Abstract
Ce texte traite de la notion de bien commun dans le contexte des discussions portant sur la justice, et ce, autant à l’échelle internationale qu’à l’échelle locale. Il montre que les débats sur ce sujet menés au Québec peuvent être utiles pour penser de manière originale le problème du bien commun sur la scène internationale. Les néolibéraux préconisent la liberté d’entreprendre aux dépens de l’interventionnisme de l’État, alors que les cosmopolites de gauche rejettent ce point de vue, mais affirment souvent la primauté absolue des droits individuels à l’échelle internationale, au détriment des droits des peuples. Dans l’un et l’autre camp, on propose des perspectives individualistes qui font l’impasse sur la dimension collective et identitaire de la mondialisation, et l’auteur ne pense pas ici seulement au thème de la diversité culturelle. Il songe aussi au droit qu’ont les peuples d’aspirer à un développement égal et au droit de se doter d’une infrastructure économique appropriée.
