comptes rendus 245 la saturation de justifications religieuses de ces conflits n'en fait pas des guerres de religion car les armées en présence sont rétives à la confessionnalisation. En guise de conclusion, l'auteur examine le rapport entre religion et violence, questionnement qui se poursuit jusqu'à l'époque contemporaine tant ce débat est toujours d'actualité.Pour clore son ouvrage, l'auteur esquisse un souhait : que son lecteur médite sur une formule de Gaston Bouthoul, qui ressemble étrangement à un adage érasmien, « Si tu veux la paix, connais la guerre ».Si le lecteur a bien suivi la démonstration de ce très beau livre, nul doute qu'il aura compris le caractère fondamentalement complexe et hétérogène de la guerre.Stimulant et érudit, cet ouvrage offre un nouveau regard sur les guerres d'Italie qu'il est urgent de découvrir.
