Abstract
Je traite des différentes formes que peuvent prendre les masques contemporains en étendant le concept à divers objets et phénomènes qui permettent de projeter une image contrôlée et bonifiée de soi. Les écrans, les habitations et les parures corporelles sont autant de masques contemporains qui participent à l'émergence d'un super-soi, sorte de super-héros du quotidien. Je m'attarde à cette mise en représentation de soi dans une perspective actuelle et urbaine liée à la culture populaire. Ce mémoire accompagne l'exposition Planète privée dans espace public, présentée dans l'Espace Michael Snow du centre d'artistes [Séquence] à l'automne 2012. Les oeuvres qui composent l'exposition sont présentées tout au long du texte et mises en relation avec l'idée du masque contemporain. Ce dernier agit comme une frontière entre l'intimité, la société, l'intérieur, l'extérieur, l'ordinaire et l'extraordinaire. Ainsi se dessinent les liens étroits qui unissent mes questionnements d'ordre pratique et théorique.
