Abstract
Les similarités et différences entre les états de deuil et de dépression font l’objet de réflexions depuis fort longtemps. Le DSM, un manuel de diagnostic psychiatrique très populaire, propose une liste de critères permettant de distinguer les deux états. Dans le DSM IV (APA, 2000) un critère d’exclusion invitait les cliniciens à ne pas diagnostiquer de dépression à une personne en deuil depuis moins de 2 mois, sauf exception. Or, dans la nouvelle version du manuel, le DSM 5 (APA, 2013), des changements ont été apportés à la définition de la dépression. Le critère d’exclusion du deuil, notamment, a été retiré, ce qui a suscité de nombreuses réactions. Dans cet article nous effectuons un survol des modifications apportées et réfléchissons aux forces et faiblesses de celles-ci, ainsi que, plus largement, aux débats et implications que suscite ce changement pour les travailleurs.
