Nous avons évalué la réponse des plantes de sous-bois à l’exclusion expérimentale du cerf de Virginie dans des forêts du sud du Québec, après environ 30 ans de densités élevées. Dans six érablières, un exclos et un témoin ont été établis en 1998 sous couvert forestier et de même en 2003 sous trouée. Nous avons évalué les impacts du cerf sur la richesse spécifique, l’abondance et la biomasse de différents groupes de plantes. Aucune différence significative entre les traitements n’a été observée pour ces différentes variables après huit ans sous couvert végétal ou trois ans sous trouée, à l’exception de l’abondance totale et des semis. Toutefois, les Trillium erectum étaient devenus plus grands et se reproduisaient davantage dans les exclos que les témoins sous couvert forestier. Dans l’ensemble, les plantes n'ont pas répondu suite à l’exclusion du cerf, peut-être en raison de la faible luminosité en sous-bois.
