Abstract
La region de Blezard et Hanmer, avec celle de Chelmsford, forment ce qu’on appelle la Vallee. Elles constituent une zone agricole situee a une vingtaine de kilometres au nord-ouest du centre de la ville de Sudbury. Ce sera l’un des terrains d’observation de cette etude, qui propose une reflexion sur le travail de journalier au tournant du siecle. Cette recherche portera sur les caracteristiques des journaliers dans trois domaines en particulier. Les trois types de journaliers qui seront observes sont : 1) le journalier minier, 2) le journalier-cheminot et 3) le journalier agricole. Nous nous demanderons si cette occupation ne fait que rassembler differents individus qui partagent accidentellement un sort commun pour former un groupe heterogene. Les journaliers sont des ouvriers payes a la journee, qui font du travail manuel. Ces hommes sont aussi connus comme des travailleurs non qualifies et nous examinerons pourquoi il en est ainsi.
