Arbre phylogénétique : représentation schématique d'une phylogénie, où les points de divergence représentent les ancêtres des descendants.Archéobactérie : groupe de procaryotes biochimiquement et génétiquement différent des eubactéries, habitant souvent des environnements extrêmes.Parfois appelées Archaea.Caractères phylogénétiques : traits génétiques héréditaires d'un organisme.Convergence : similarité développée suite à une évolution indépendante, sans relations phylogénétiques.Contraste avec homologie.Endosymbiose : se dit lorsqu'un organisme s'établit à l'intérieur d'un autre et que les deux deviennent un seul organisme fonctionnel.Eubactérie : groupe de procaryotes composés de deux sous-groupes de bactéries, Gram + et Gram -(classification basée sur une technique de coloration de la paroi cellulaire).Eucaryote : lignée d'organismes dont l'ADN est organisé dans un noyau.Compose l'un des trois domaines d'organismes, les deux autres étant les eubactéries et les archéobactéries.
