米国,カナダは記録管理の先進国である。両国においては国立公文書館が現用から非現用のアーカイブズまでのライフサイクル管理を,強力なリーダーシップにより一元的に管理しているのが特徴である。最近,これら両国立公文書館を視察する機会を得たので,その時の見聞をもとに両国の公文書管理の最新動向を紹介する。両国とも,記録管理の専門職体制がしっかりと根付いていること,また電子記録管理に対する新しい取り組みを積極的に展開しているのが印象的であった。
