Abstract
These books are paperback reprints of monographs previously published in cloth and long out of print. In each book Tyson offers a literary-critical reading of Luke–Acts, which he takes to be two books that appeared in the last quarter of the first century ce that tell a single story, and that are meant to be read consecutively. Thus his stated concern is to explicate the meaning of Luke–Acts in its original context, not to focus on matters of historical accuracy or contemporary theology. In the former volume, on Jesus’ death, Tyson sets out an approach that he characterizes as respecting the integrity of the text that he reads, and accepting the integrity of the world that the text presumes.
