Abstract

In 2009, Bombardier Transportation’s Division Systems and Asia/Australia (previously Systems Division) embarked on a development project that was initially known as the “APM Platform Convergence” project, later to become known as the INNOVIA APM 300 project. On March 14, 2012, the prototype APM 300 vehicle left the static test bay at Bombardier Transportation’s Pittsburgh facility under its own power to embark on dynamic testing, even as two system projects, for King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and Munich Airport in Munich, Germany, were already underway, having reached Notice to Proceed in May and December of 2011, respectively. With receipt of a third order for a system at Dubai International Airport in Dubai, United Arab Emirates in November, 2012, the APM 300 has now transitioned from development through prototype and initial production to a stable product. This paper will examine that transition.
