Tendances violentes de la droite radicale au Canada : analyses chronologiques et facteurs d’influence

Abstract
Notamment en raison de l’absence de partis politiques d’extrême droite à l’échelle nationale au Canada, peu d’études se sont attachées à comprendre quels étaient les facteurs pouvant influencer les variations du nombre d’actes de violence liés à cette orientation politique radicale. La littérature scientifique propose toutefois trois grandes familles de variables explicatives sur le phénomène, soit les conditions économiques, le développement social et la situation politique. Afin de mieux comprendre l’évolution de ce phénomène au Canada, nous avons recensé 241 incidents de violence perpétrés au nom de l’extrême droite entre les années 1977 et 2010. Cette étude montre, au moyen d’analyses de séries chronologiques ARIMA, que seules les conditions politiques sont liées aux variations des taux globaux de violence d’extrême droite. Également, on y constate que les facteurs explicatifs sont liés différemment avec les taux d’incidents plus spécifiques ayant trait à l’exclusion raciale, religieuse et homophobe.
