L’aube des Temps modernes, le xve siècle, est le moment d’une ouverture nouvelle et profondément pragmatique de l’Europe. Commynes en est un acteur et, par l’écriture des Mémoires, le « récitant » privilégié. Il ajoute à la tradition une autre trame, celle de la diplomatie. L’écriture explore ces nouveaux territoires, où s’exerce une pratique, avec des repérages, des situations balisées, des interactions codées : bref, l’univers professionnel du diplomate, son lieu d’échanges, son expérience, le tout nourri de regards croisés, de l’observation des différences.
