Abstract
Malgré un titre usuel s'il en est, cet ouvrage publié par l'historien de l'Église (évangélique) T.K. renouvelle l'histoire de la Réforme en en réformant l'écriture.Ce texte dense de plus de 700 pages, auquel se rive un volumineux dossier d'annexes, propose pourtant, en trois chapitres, une argumentation chronologico-causale assez classique de la Réforme, partant de ses « conditions préalables » (« Voraussetzungen der Reformation »), puis des étapes et formes de son application dans l'Empire (« Die Reformation im Reich »), pour aboutir au kairos de la paix d'Augsbourg marquant le basculement, selon l'auteur, vers « l'irrévocabilité de la Réforme » (« Unwiderruflichkeit der Reformation »).La borne de 1555 qui clôture temporellement l'étude reste aussi conventionnelle pour l'historiographie allemande, notamment pour les historiens tenants du paradigme de la confessionnalisation, qui s'en servent pour marquer le passage de la Réforme (1517-1555) à l'âge confessionnel (1555-1648) -on pourra tout de même s'étonner de ce choix, ou l'attribuer aux impératifs éditoriaux, car l'auteur milite plus loin pour des périodisations autres, désaliénées des contingences de l'histoire politique.Enfin, l'espace géographique envisagé reste circonscrit aux terres d'Empire, dans une perspective d'histoire allemande affichée et s'abstenant de toute perambulation dans la forêt drue des histoires et historiographies voisines.
