The authors are to be congratulated for clarifying the importance of selecting the correct plotting position for distribution fitting in engineering applications. They showed that the use of plotting positions specific to the distribution being considered is appropriate for distribution fitting and quantile estimation. We add some additional new and existing results on the use of the ordinary, weighted, and generalized least-squares methods to fit Gumbel distribution and on the relation between the appropriate plotting position and the mean of order statistics of reduced Gumbel variate.
