Abstract
But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40: 31) Almighty and ever living God on this day when we commemorate and commend to You those who lived and died in the service of others, we do so with faith in Your continuing goodness and love. Gathered now a people of Christ’s church, we bless You for light that comes to our darkness for comfort that binds our wounds for hope that lifts our spirits for You are the source of all life and truth and by the power of Your Spirit You bring good out of evil life out of death. Accept our sacrifice of praise and prayer and together with all who turn to You today hold us in the bond of Your peace through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. God of forgiveness, we offer our broken spirits for Your healing for with sorrow we confess that along with many others we ignore Your commandment to love our enemies and to pray for those who persecute us, keeping alive instead the passions, false pride and half truths that lead to conflict and acts of terrorism. We are not worthy of Your love nor of the suffering endured by others nor of lives lost on our behalf. Still less are we worthy of the suffering and sacrifice made once at Calvary by Christ our Lord. Grant us the humility to seek Your forgiveness and from the broken way of conflict and pain, lead us into the way of truth and life promised in Christ our Lord. May the God of love and mercy forgive you and set you free from all your sin. Jesus said, Arise, go in peace, your faith has made you whole. Teach us, good Lord, to serve you as you deserve, to give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to heed the wounds, to toil and not to seek for rest, to labour and not to ask for any reward, save that of knowing that we do your will through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
