Abstract
L’extension et la diversification des pratiques sportives contemporaines rendent complexe l’étude de l’engagement sportif. La vitesse de transformation des activités physiques et sportives impose désormais une double contrainte au travail sociologique : produire des données qui dressent un état de la réalité à un moment donné et organiser cette production selon une méthode qui permette la répétition du recueil d’informations. À partir d’une enquête par questionnaire menée auprès de jeunes de 14 à 20 ans scolarisés dans la région Provence-Alpes, les auteurs utilisent une méthode d’analyse qui permet de présenter et de comprendre des conduites ambivalentes (pratiquer du sport en club et s’adonner régulièrement à des activités libres). L’utilisation de cette méthode fait émerger des résultats originaux et contribue à reconsidérer l’influence des variables traditionnelles (âge, sexe, CSP, etc.) sur la participation sportive.
