Abstract
Résumé Cet article fait le point sur l’inquiétude largement partagée aujourd’hui quant à la pérennité du développement économique et social tel que nous le connaissons. Cette inquiétude est jugée fondée, dans la mesure où elle s’appuie sur les signes tangibles d’une dégradation potentiellement catastrophique de l’écosystème terrestre. Ainsi, l’article expose des données frappantes sur les changements climatiques qui se produisent de façon accélérée depuis quelques décennies et qui sont causés par une consommation excessive des ressources. Ce constat appelle en premier lieu à une remise en cause du libre accès aux services dispensés par la nature (par l’atmosphère terrestre, en particulier), à une régulation de l’expression des besoins individuels. Il plaide ensuite en faveur de la mobilisation de nos facultés créatrices et de la promotion d’un nouvel esprit d’entreprise axé cette fois sur la valorisation à long terme des services environnementaux.
