Abstract
La diffusion de la cosmologie corrélative, axée sur la complémentarité des contraires (ex. : yin - yang ), n’empêcha aucunement l’essor d’une réflexion analytique et dichotomique dans la Chine antique. Le discernement (moral et intellectuel) est par exemple préconisé au sein de l’École qui se réclame de Mozi (env. 480-390 av. n. è.). L’exégèse du chapitre 17 — « Critique de la guerre offensive, I » — de l’oeuvre éponyme montre que les moïstes insistaient sur la nécessité d’opérer un choix critique entre deux termes opposés logiquement ou empiriquement incompatibles (ex. : juste/injuste, vrai/faux, positif/négatif), exclusifs l’un de l’autre et impossibles à harmoniser. Dans leurs écrits, le discernement est de surcroît lié à la raison langagière et à la dialectique. Il convient donc de reconsidérer le stéréotype qui présente la culture chinoise comme étant peu encline à l’analyse et réfractaire à l’esprit critique.
