Abstract
Partant d’une anatomie du discours occidental actuel sur la crise du politique, l’auteur identifie la nostalgie de valeurs morales communes (quelquefois nationales) comme un élément clé de ce discours. Les valeurs morales communes sont souvent perçues comme un ciment pour la société. Toutefois, à l’aide d’exemples qui illustrent la fragilité de l’État de droit dans la démocratie française, on soutient ici que les bases réelles de la vie sociale peuvent être mises en danger par les prétentions morales qui visent à l’uniformité spirituelle autour du bien ou du juste. C’est dans cette perspective qu’est développé l’examen des réponses appropriées aux défis du pluralisme.
