Abstract
Diaphragmatic injury is a rare traumatic injury. We treated 14 cases of traumatic diaphragmatic injuries between 1987 and 2000. Radiological pre-operative diagnosis was performed on 11 (78.9%) patients. The left hemidiaphragm was ruptured in 10 (71.4%) patients and there was visceral hermiation in 10 (71.4%). Diagnosis of diaphragmatic rupture is difficult, and is usually made intraoperatively. On the other hand, diagnosis of diaphragmatic hernia is made relatively easily by chest radiography and computed tomography.
